Dampness breeds bacteria and germs and can cause serious health problems to all the house inmates. Our basements are susceptible to dampness because of running pipelines. By using following tips you can be successful in keeping homes free from dampness:
Install a proper drainage system with tight fitted water pipes to avoid leakages.
Use proper water slopes in your kitchen counters, bathrooms and even outside your homes which will prevent the water from accumulating thereby reducing the chances of dampness.
Install a dehumidifier in the basement to remove traces of moisture from the air that leads to moisture and moth growth. You can place a humidity meter in the basement that will help you in keeping the humidity levels below 60 percent.
You should also ensure that the washer and dryers are not vented inside the basement that is one of the major contributors to mold growth.
Finally install fans in the basements that will help in faster drying up of area in case of any water leakage.
