Entrance mats are placed at the entrance of homes and also at the commercial institutions so that people are able to wipe clean their shoes before taking them inside.

Choosing Plants that Thrive Forever

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Home Improvement, Home Plants,If you are interested in gardening and do not know much about it, you should do some research. You can take advantage of the internet that offers many articles on how to start the new hobby. You need to know what the type of soil you have is. Not all plants can survive, let alone thrive, in alien soils. You may use certain external elements to make the soil match the requirements of the plant but it is a temporary solution that will end up spoiling the natural one you had earlier.
The best is to go for plants that suit your soil. The three major categories of soil are clay, loamy, and sandy. If you have loamy, you are lucky. Any plant will thrive in such soil. For sand, you need plants that can sustain the dryness. You may use Jasmine, Bayberry, and English ivy for such soil. They do not require much water to grow. You can also use cactus and similar types for sandy soil. The bottom-line is that you should opt to go natural, that is, use plants that suit your soil rather than using any plant and trying to make it look good using external elements.

Fixing a Dripping Showerhead

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Home Improvement, bathroomNothing can be more distracting and irritating than the sound of water dripping constantly. You may choose to leave it like that or go ahead to fix it. Leaving it like that will lead to loss of water, while you lose your mental piece too. Let us face it. It is time to show some courage and stop that thing from spoiling our lives.

Just go to the showerhead and check out what is causing the leak. If it is the pipe, then the solution is easy. You just need some material that fills the crack. Before applying this, turn off the main water supply to the shower and keep it like that until the material becomes hard enough.

If you see the drops coming from the shower pores, then there is a strong possibility that the ring which supports the head needs replacement. You may have to call the plumber giving him the details of your showerhead so that he brings in the appropriate ring with him for replacement. Alternatively, if you can, you yourself can get the replacement ring and change it to get the peace back.

How to install carpet on stairs

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Home Improvement, Carpet, StairsCarpeting on the stairs is done for two main reasons. One is safety so that people using the stairs don’t trip off and the other is to maintain the insulation.
Installing a carpet is an easy job and can be accomplished by even a layman if he has the basic knowledge and tools.
The carpet on the stairs is laid in two manners i.e., the waterfall method and the cap and band method. In the waterfall method a single carpet is put on the riser and the tread whereas in the cap and band method, the pieces of carpet are used separately for the rider and the tread.
The waterfall method is less time consuming and neat work. It can be done by taking a little extra length of carpet than the height of the flight. It can be fixed by using the nails or staples by tightening the carpet at the crotch of the stairs.
The only thing to be taken care is that the carpet is laid smoothly as loose carpet can cause accidents.
